Birth Story, in progress

I've been trying now for almost 3 months! to write Grant's birth story. I feel like I've forgotten it already (when the whole point of writing it down was so I wouldn't forget). Those first few weeks of sleep deprivation and COLIC really scrambled my brain. Hopefully I'll get some time to finish it soon.

Week 39

Highlights
Week :: 39
Total Weight Gain/Loss :: +11.5 lbs. (February 22)
Maternity Clothes :: All clothes
Sex :: KNOWN - boy
Movement :: Baby has dropped. Lots of movement and pelvic pressure with lower back pain. Baby must have long legs, because the heartburn is back full force and his feet are lodged in my ribs, permanently. Doctor says he is BIG. She is estimating 8 1/2 pounds and very long, as Aaron and I are both tall people.
Sleep :: Horrible! My joints ache and I have to constantly empty my bladder. Aaron and Ellie have been horrible snorers lately and keep me up most of the night.
Symptoms :: Numb hands when typing on the computer, numb arms when sleeping. Bones and joints creaking after resting for a while. STILL 2 cm dilated and 60% effaced.
Food Aversions :: Almost everything - nothing sounds yummy and I'm not very hungry.
Food Cravings :: Aussie Fries from Outback or Idaho Nachos from Granite City. YUMMY!
Best Moment of this Week :: Ellie gives lots of love to Baby. She kisses my belly. She also rubs and gives "pat pats." She is so sweet and I'm sure she'll be an amazing, big sister.
Looking Forward To :: Holding baby in my arms, picking a name for him, and introducing him to big sister Ellie.

Labor?

Dear Baby, Today is a beautiful spring day. Come out and play! I think you'll enjoy it. Love, Mama ♥

I just cleaned out the unfinished nursery, hauled out all the carpet and flooring trash, stripped our bed linens and have been washing clothes all day. The windows are open and Ellie is enjoying "quiet/alone time" because she clearly is not taking a nap. I really don't feel the urge to "nest," I'm too exhausted, but I'm using this time today to clean instead of napping. Hopefully it will inspire labor to begin.

Dreams

Last night, I dreamt that my belly was so stretchy (think Elastic Girl from the Incredibles) that the baby would stretch his little legs and I could totally grab his leg and foot and count his little toes. Weird. Feel free to show up little man, so I can count your toes outside of my belly.

Dear Baby

Daddy and I went out to dinner tonight for Valentine's Day. (Daddy's not big on this holiday, so the fact that he got me a pair of earrings and dinner out is AMAZING.) We were told there was an hour and 15 minute wait, so we waited a while before driving out to Maumee, but when we got to the restaurant we had to wait another hour. We were lucky enough to snag a seat because it was very crowded and I was very uncomfortable. I told you to sit still because Mama wanted a yummy dinner. And a yummy dinner it was. We ate at Outback Steakhouse tonight and dined on Aussie Fries, my favorite salad, warm bread, coconut shrimp, and filet mignon. I was so full that it didn't bother me that my filet was overcooked because there was no room in my belly! Contractions started during the main course. They came fast and hard. But they weren't getting "longer, stronger and closer together." Daddy kept asking if we needed to go to the hospital. I said no and we packed up and paid the bill to come on home.

The ride home was horrible! Every bump in the road was magnified 110%. I had to go to the bathroom so badly, even though I went 3 times at the restaurant! Daddy couldn't go fast enough it seemed. I really thought that we'd get home, grab our bags and leave for the hospital. But, now we're home and things have fizzled out. My back is hurting very much - are you facing the wrong direction? On Monday, Dr. Ward said you were head down, but didn't say anything about your position. My legs feel like jello. I must have an overdose of that hormone that loosens joints for labor coursing through my veins! I'm extremely tired now. I'm going to go nap, but I was so excited to meet you I'm not sure that I can sleep.

Dr. said that my contractions need to be 5 minutes apart for an hour or my water needs to break before coming to the hospital - so, if you'd like to make either of those things happen we're as ready as we're ever going to be! Daddy is so anxious to meet you, as am I! See you soon.

Love, Mama
37 weeks & 1 day

P.S. You look a lot bigger in there than the 8.5 pounds that I've gained throughout this pregnancy! I sure hope you're not a baby elephant! (We'll just blame it on the horizontal stripes. Our little secret!) Also, this is the only photo I have from this pregnancy. I'm sad that I deleted the rest.

Dear Baby

Last night you gave me quite the scare. I was getting ready for Daddy to come home from work - the dogs needed to go outside to potty, they needed dinner, I needed to do dishes and prepare our own dinner. All the while, your big sister Ellie was at the end of her rope because it was late and she was tired and hungry.

I picked Ellie up to take change her diaper and I got these horrible "stitches" all over my belly. I was very uncomfortable, but still able to move around and wrestle Ellie's diaper. These stitches lasted for a few minutes and then released at the same time I got a "woosh" of pain deep, down where the sun doesn't shine. The same feeling had happened the night before (Monday) when Daddy and I were watching movies. I was folding clothes on the bed and suddenly bent over in pain so bad it took my breath away and gave me tears in my eyes.

Yet, I continued to go about getting ready for Daddy to come home from work. I bundled up and harnessed the dogs to go outside. It is cold and slippery out. We got rain this morning that melted some snow away, but left behind mushy snow that froze overnight. The dogs did their business and came inside to eat dinner.

Ellie and I were unloading the dishwasher when the second set of stitches came along. I decided to call the doctor. She advised to drink some OJ and rest for 30 minutes while counting your movements. If my contractions became regular (10-minutes apart and I couldn't talk through them) I was to come to the hospital to get checked out.

Daddy brought home orange juice and we had pancakes with bacon for dinner. I sat down to count your movements and counted at least 5 movements within two minutes! Things finally calmed down a bit and we all headed to bed. Daddy gave me a back massage and then I took a warm shower. I did not sleep much, but at least you're still safe and warm within my womb.

I'm so excited to meet you, but you're still a little early. Try to sit tight. I know that's difficult when you've most likely got my impulsiveness and desire to arrive fashionably early.

Love, Mama
